Air purifiers with HEPA air filters are the main choice for most people when it comes to an effective room-purifying appliance. For a long time, HEPA filters have removed pollen and other pollutants from commercial green houses and sensitive enclosures to prevent crossbreeding and contamination.
The HEPA filters are designed to eliminate dust, dust mites, mold spores, and pet dander from both commercial locations as well as the home environment. They are highly efficient filters that remove radioactive particles from the air. They have a wide range of applications especially in installations where there is no tolerance for pollen or dirt laden air.
HEPA filters were initially manufactured for the Atomic Energy Commission to remove radioactive and dirt particles from the working and research environment. The filter, which was originally made from recycled paper, had small passages that allowed air to flow through while dirt and other particles remained trapped inside the filter.
HEPA filters are also made from finely woven glass particles that are stitched together to form an impenetrable web that traps particles without occupying much space. Due to their high efficiency, HEPA air filters became widely used in particle sensitive areas such as operating rooms and pharmaceutical facilities. By law they are required for use at manufacturing plants where workers are exposed to asbestos, lead and other toxic substances.
HEPA air purifiers do contain a removable filter and these filters either need to be changed, or more recently washed to remove contaminants. During cleaning, some particles are released back into the air, but once the machine is back in operation they will quickly be recaptured.
Amazingly, vacuum cleaners were found to account for almost 75% of the dust and contaminants released into the air and it was quickly realized that something had to be done to minimize this. It wasn't very long before researchers devised a small HEPA filter for the household vacuum cleaner. Since then, almost every vacuum cleaner on the market has been outfitted with some form of filtration.
Almost all air purifiers will have some form of patented filtration process that is better, newer and more efficient than other models available, but the truth of the matter is that the HEPA brand of certifications are the industry standard.
Through continuing research and product development, HEPA brand filters and vacuum cleaners have risen to the top of the market because they are typically the most efficient and the most effective at removing unhealthy contaminants from the air.
Before you purchase any air purification system, I advise you to do as much research as possible. Some air purifiers are targeted towards microorganisms only, where others are specifically designed to remove dirt and pollen. A HEPA certified air purification system will eliminate almost all air pollutants and is an excellent selection for broad applications.
